I thought when I started the 40 Hanger Challenge it would be done and over it by now. Somehow, I have this idea to keep going longer. Now it is Spring in AZ, mostly 80’s but have seen a few high 90’s already. Which means the February 40 hanger pieces no longer work.
Here’s what I’ll be focusing on to freshen my 40 hangers:
Pops of color (Purple of course, pinks, blues)
White capri’s, jeans,
Shorts – dressy and casual
I already have most of these items in my boxes and will need to find them.
I will also be looking for cute up-to-date sandals and peep toe shoes.
What are you looking to add to your wardrobe this Spring?
I have been living the 40 Hanger Challenge since February 1st and it was suppose to end on February 28th. I felt it needed a little more time. Not totally sure how I feel about this but I am doing it anyway.
Here’s what I’ve discovered. Some of the pieces I thought I would wear a lot never came out of the closet. I have been replacing those items with ones I want to wear. Weather in the Phoenix (AZ) metro area in February is wacky. Trying to predict what the best items for this was and is hard. Although March/April will stay in the 80’s mostly. It is also hard to get me photographed before I am running out the door or changing in to “mommy clothes”. You know the “mommy clothes”, the ones a mom wears when making dinner, cleaning, doing bathes and taking care of sick kids.
Here’s some photos of what I have put together.
White v neck sweater, cami, jeans and scarf
Print capri, chambray button down w/ cami
Red jacket, print top, black trouser jeans
Navy & Turquoise
Black wrap top, black capris, purple knit jacket, scarf. Worn with boots
Sleeveless animal print knit top, black cardigan, black trouser jean
Print sheer top, cami, dark brown pants
Sheer print top, cami, light tan pants
Purple 3/4 sleeve button down, black slacks
Grey dolman sleeve t-shirt, printed capri
Magenta print top, cami, black cardigan, black pant. worn belted
Green print top, 3/4 sleeve w/ sparkles cardigan, black capri
Sleeveless print top, tan pant
Sleeveless brown sparkle top, cami, print button down, dark brown pants
Red and black cami’s layered, print top, navy high waisted cuffed pant
Royal blue sparkle sleeveless, cami, 3/4 sleeve print top, black pant
I am continuing this challenge into April. Wish me luck. Transitioning the closet to spring is the next step. I’ll take a group shot of the current 40 before I move things out.
I knew this challenge would be hard. I started with a bang and have been dragging the last month or so. BUT, I am still moving forward, inching maybe but moving forward. Here’s the latest I’ve finished.
The Blessed LIfe was a little harder for me to get through not because it’s a hard read but it worked on my heart along the way so I took my time in taking it all in.
And because I am a mom and read about 20-30 minutes each kid I will include all these Junie B. Jones books C boy and I have been reading since the new year. These books crack us up.
I’m looking forward to the next book I’ve decided to re-read. I think it will help me keep on task.
I am amazed at the hours it is taking me to go through my closet. If you decide to attempt this challenge be aware it will take you several days if you have a stuffed full closet. Over the long weekend I think I gave it 5 + hours. This did include multiple interruption from my silly boys. AND I am still NOT done.
Working on making it happen.
I have filled 4 containers of various sizes of 1) the clothes I want to keep after the challenge, 2) ones that don’t fit right now, and 3) seasonal items. There is also two large shopping bags FULL ready for the next “Switch & Ditch“. I should count the actual number leaving my closet forever. (Side note, I never did get a full count but I am still pulling clothes out)
So much stuff! Just 2 of the bins I filled.
Lastly, I am really working the mix and match angle I love so much. Really figuring out which pieces I truly enjoy wearing and the maximum number of looks I can get out of them. I really want all my outfits to represent me and not just an “easy way out”.
Here are the bags that left forever… oh! and a box of 10 pairs of shoes.
Good bye, forever.
Have you taken an assessment of your closet? How is that going?
I’d like to share that I fully intended to have this challenge in place and “working it” January 1st. I didn’t, however, take into account… Christmas and all the fun activities that we do during that time. ugh…
Now my goal is to have everything in place February first and begin posting an outfit a day on my Facebook page and a weekly review here. What is the 40 Hanger Challenge? Several months ago I came across a blogger who did this for her closet. She cleared out her closet and only kept 40 hanging items. She did this for a year. If something came in another item had to leave. Made her really think about what her fashion personality and needs were. It has been mulling around in my head all this time. Could I really do that? Do I even WANT to do that. Then I thought about a few of my clients. While I am a clothes horse my clients who truly just want a few key pieces need to KNOW I really can achieve that for them.
At this time I am not planning on staying with just 40 for more that just the month. I do plan on downsizing as the shear number is just silly and truly I want pieces I love, of quality and I fit into. My husband was happy to hear this, as it seems I have taken over some closet area that was suppose to be his 14 years ago. oops…
In the mean time… here is where I am at:
Counted the number of hanging clothes I actually have in my closet. (over 300 OMGosh!) No this doesn’t count what’s in my dresser.
Found 40 PURPLE hangers to use.
Purchased a container to store the clothing not being used in the challenge and started filling it. I have purged a few items along the way. (yea, me!)
What does 40 purple hangers look like?
40 Purple hangers and the space hubby wants back.
Now to decipher the ratios of pants, tops, jackets, etc… February in Arizona can range from 40* to 80*. I am also contemplating how I want to apply this concept to shoes and accessories, eeek.
I am excited to share that I have been able to read a couple more books.
My big boy and I have been enjoying the Dragonbreath series and had finished every last one last year. For Christmas daddy found the most current book in the series. C boy wouldn’t let me put it on my empty shelf. He doesn’t think it counts, but I read every word. 🙂 If you have a 1st/2nd grade boy in your life I would bet they’d enjoy this series.
My son doesn’t think this should count. But I read every page of it.
This book was a Birthday gift from a sweet friend. On relationship marketing. I really enjoyed it and hope to implement some of the ideas soon. Another easy read in story form.
The book I am currently reading is really good and is challenging me to thinking about what it means to bless others. Not going as quickly as I find myself really thinking about what I am reading. That’s a good thing.
Here we are mid month in January. Did you make any resolutions? How are you doing? It takes 21 days to make or break a habit. (I think longer if food is involved.) I’ve heard that right about now, mid month, is when people give up. Think about it this way, either it wasn’t right for you or it needs to be broken down in to chunks. By the way, it is totally OK to start over. I think I have about 3 times already.
Here are some ideas I have for your beauty regime.
Wash your face (twice a day). I am partial to BeautiControl’s facial system. If you don’t have one find one. If your in AZ I’ll help you. Even if you want to just fall into bed. You’ll feel so much better. Take it from me, I’ve been falling into bed the last 7 years (oldest child) I feel so much better when I do this.
Wear Sunscreen everyday (no it doesn’t matter that it is the dead of winter) the sun is blaring and the UV rays are bouncing off of everything. Protect your skin.
Brush AND Floss No I am not being paid by the dentistry association. Keeps your smile healthy and you healthy too. I found out the plaque associated with heart disease is the same plaque in your mouth… Take care of your smile, take care of your heart.
Daily Routine – Skin care and smile care.
How about some fashion ideas…
Shop your closet first Before running off to the store to get something new, shop your closet. Get creative with a new look. Think outside the box or closet in this case. You’ll save time and money. Who doesn’t want both of those?
Only keep what fits you in your closet There is nothing like pulling out something to wear and realizing you can’t fit into it weather to big or small. If you want to hang onto somethings fine, just keep them separate. It will save time and aggravation.
Decide what you are going to wear the night before Even if you have to create two looks. Yes, I am guilty of it too. I pull something together the night before and then in the morning I am not in the mood for that look. Now I get two outfits ready. It saves time and If I can sleep in just a bit longer totally worth it.
Nothing to wear?
What fashion or beauty resolution are you working on?
it has been a long time since I have been able to “finish” making a dream board. With my busy boys running around and me being spent by the end of the day doing one at have has not been a priority. I got the bug to do one in Dec. but just couldn’t seem to finaggle it. I had a meeting with a friend of mine (An Occasion to Remember) right after the new year and I shared with her that I wanted to do a dream board. Turns out she did too. I met with a mutual friend of ours (Spirit Led Life Coach) to see if we could make this work for us and a few others.
I am a visual and tactile person so Dream or Vision Boards really speak to me. I have led my team through creating their own several times but it was so nice to have someone else lead me through this years. I would greatly encourage you to create one yourself.
Here is how mine turned out this year… different from ones in the past.
Here’s what you need to do your own:
Poster Board ( you choose the size)
Magazines that vary in subject (ex fashion, business, travel, home)
glue stick or something to adhere your pictures to the board
scissors (fun or plane) I like fun.
Most importantly, a somewhat clear vision of what you’d like to see in your future. The more specific the better. Somehow you will find pictures or words that will translate over for your board.
I like it best to do this process with friends. You can support one another and then when you share you can celebrate.
Before I begin I am prayerful about what I really need and want. My hope for you is that “He grant your heart;s desires and make all your plans succeed.” Psalm 20:4 (NLT)
