Empty Shelf Challenge – March

I knew this challenge would be hard. I started with a bang and have been dragging the last month or so. BUT, I am still moving forward, inching maybe but moving forward. Here’s the latest I’ve finished.

The Blessed LIfe was a little harder for me to get through not because it’s a hard read but it worked on my heart along the way so I took my time in taking it all in.

The Blessed Life

And because I am a mom and read about 20-30 minutes each kid I will include all these Junie B. Jones books C boy and I have been reading since the new year. These books crack us up.

Junie B. Jones

I’m looking forward to the next book I’ve decided to re-read. I think it will help me keep on task.

The Closet of a Fashionista – 40 Hanger Challenge

I’d like to share that I fully intended to have this challenge in place and “working it” January 1st. I didn’t, however, take into account… Christmas and all the fun activities that we do during that time. ugh…

Now my goal is to have everything in place February first and begin posting an outfit a day on my Facebook page and a weekly review here. What is the 40 Hanger Challenge? Several months ago I came across a blogger who did this for her closet. She cleared out her closet and only kept 40 hanging items. She did this for a year. If something came in another item had to leave. Made her really think about what her fashion personality and needs were. It has been mulling around in my head all this time.  Could I really do that? Do I even WANT to do that. Then I thought about a few of my clients. While I am a clothes horse my clients who truly just want a few key pieces need to KNOW I really can achieve that for them.

At this time I am not planning on staying with just 40 for more that just the month. I do plan on downsizing as the shear number is just silly and truly I want pieces I love, of quality and I fit into. My husband was happy to hear this, as it seems I have taken over some closet area that was suppose to be his 14 years ago. oops…

In the mean time… here is where I am at:

  • Counted the number of hanging clothes I actually have in my closet. (over 300 OMGosh!) No this doesn’t count what’s in my dresser.
  • Found 40 PURPLE hangers to use.
  • Purchased a container to store the clothing not being used in the challenge and started filling it. I have purged a few items along the way. (yea, me!)

What does 40 purple hangers look like?

40 Purple hangers and the space hubby wants back.

40 Purple hangers and the space hubby wants back.

Now to decipher the ratios of pants, tops, jackets, etc… February in Arizona can range from 40* to 80*. I am also contemplating how I want to apply this concept to shoes and accessories, eeek.

Lots to think about. Stay tuned.

Progress – Empty Shelf Challenge

I am excited to share that I have been able to read a couple more books.

My big boy and I have been enjoying the Dragonbreath series and had finished every last one last year. For Christmas daddy found the most current book in the series. C boy wouldn’t let me put it on my empty shelf. He doesn’t think it counts, but I read every word. 🙂 If you have a 1st/2nd grade boy in your life I would bet they’d enjoy this series.

My son doesn't think this should count. But I read every page of it.

My son doesn’t think this should count. But I read every page of it.

This book was a Birthday gift from a sweet friend. On relationship marketing. I really enjoyed it and hope to implement some of the ideas soon. Another easy read in story form.

Birthday Gift

The book I am currently reading is really good and is challenging me to thinking about what it means to bless others. Not going as quickly as I find myself really thinking about what I am reading. That’s a good thing.

Have you gotten any further on your reading?

Happy New Year!

Goodbye 2013!  Hello 2014!

I don’t know about you but last year was a challenge. I had big plans and feel like I fell short on all of them. One of those being this blog. I like to share my thoughts with you but it was difficult to truly find the time among all the craziness of my life.

So, I shall start again. Make my plans and see what happens. I hope you’ll join me on this journey of faith, fashion and family.

I’d like to share one goal with you for now. I have decided to accept Jon Acuff’s #empytshelf challenge for 2014. I emptied a shelf and have started reading at least 10 pages a day. Now this is a BIG DEAL as reading with 2 boys running about is not, shall I say, easy. So here is my shelf.

The start of a New Year.

The start of a New Year.

This is the first book to go on my shelf.  Yep, I already read one book!! Woot! And I highly recommend this one. It is a fast read and great teaching on relationship marketing.

Other Goals:

  • 40 Hanger Challenge – More on this later as I am going to blog my way throughout the challenge from start to finish.
  • Couch to 5K – I am not sure how I really feel about this one as I have always said if I am running you know someone/thing is chasing me. With that said the concept keeps stirring in my heart so I thought let’s see what happens.

Would you like to join me on one of these goals?  What are you reading?

New Year Resolutions – Goals – Ideas for the Fashionista

Here we are mid month in January.  Did you make any resolutions? How are you doing? It takes 21 days to make or break a habit. (I think longer if food is involved.) I’ve heard that right about now, mid month, is when people give up. Think about it this way, either it wasn’t right for you or it needs to be broken down in to chunks. By the way, it is totally OK to start over. I think I have about 3 times already.

Here are some ideas I have for your beauty regime.

  • Wash your face (twice a day). I am partial to BeautiControl’s facial system. If you don’t have one find one. If your in AZ I’ll help you. Even if you want to just fall into bed. You’ll feel so much better. Take it from me, I’ve been falling into bed the last 7 years (oldest child) I feel so much better when I do this.
  • Wear Sunscreen everyday (no it doesn’t matter that it is the dead of winter) the sun is blaring and the UV rays are bouncing off of everything. Protect your skin.
  • Brush AND Floss  No I am not being paid by the dentistry association. Keeps your smile healthy and you healthy too. I found out the plaque associated with heart disease is the same plaque in your mouth… Take care of your smile, take care of your heart.

    Daily Routine

Daily Routine – Skin care and smile care.

How about some fashion ideas…

  • Shop your closet first  Before running off to the store to get something new, shop your closet. Get creative with a new look. Think outside the box or closet in this case. You’ll save time and money. Who doesn’t want both of those?
  • Only keep what fits you in your closet  There is nothing like pulling out something to wear and realizing you can’t fit into it weather to big or small. If you want to hang onto somethings fine, just keep them separate. It will save time and aggravation.
  • Decide what you are going to wear the night before  Even if you have to create two looks. Yes, I am guilty of it too. I pull something together the night before and then in the morning I am not in the mood for that look. Now I get two outfits ready. It saves time and If I can sleep in just a bit longer totally worth it.
Nothing to wear?

Nothing to wear?

What fashion or beauty resolution are you working on?

Family & Parenthood – May Photo a Day (7-10,12,15,20,21)

Striking a balance in my like has been a continuous challenge so here I am catching up.

7. Someone that inspires you  My boys. As much as they drive me of the deep end I truly look at them and want to be a better person & a better example.

Someone that inspires me – Sweet P and C boy.

8. A smell you adore  Really and truly only because the love of my life wears this and has  forever. I also like orange blossom and the way my boys smell right after a bath.

A Smell you adore…

9. Something you do everyday  Way to many to list. It was hard to narrow down… but these silly boys gave me the perfect inspiration. We might not get one in everyday but most days they get a bath.

Something you do every day – Bath time

10. A favorite word  Bedtime… need I say more. It was a rough week and bedtime is the sweet end to the day.

A favorite word – Bedtime

12. something that makes you happy  Yeah, like I said rough week… once again bedtime and laying my head on my pillow at the end of a long day.

something that makes you happy – sleep

15. Love  The snuggles of my wee boy. I wonder if he is trying to make up for the previous days… I just love when they need some snuggle from mom.

Love – snuggles from Sweet P

20. something you can’t live without  Ok so not something but someone. This man, my husband, best friend, love of my life.

Something you can’t live without – my man

Yes and these boys too. 🙂

21. where you stand  This is what Sweet P uses so he can reach. This day he “needs” to reach the blinds to make it dark in his room to play with the flashlight.

Where you stand – When you need to reach

April Photo a Day 25. Looking Down

While “looking down” I realized I need a pedicure. Luckily you can’t tell. Good thing I know a few products that can help. I just love the Detox foot creme from BeautiControl. I have it on my bedside table to make sure I put it on every night. Since sandal season is upon us it’s even more important. I like to do a treatment for my clients where you put the foot creme on, a plastic bag and then a heated footie. Oh it feels soo good and your feet are smooth afterward. It’s even better if you do a little foot scrub before hand. The crazy thing is if I put on my foot creme while my hubby is around next thing I know his feet are on my lap.

Looking down – my toes, need a pedicure.

What’s your favorite color to paint your toes?

April Photo a Day 5-7

I have had really good eye site for as long as I can remember. So you can image how not being able to read the color names on my lip colors can be frustrating…

5. Tiny  Names on the bottom of my BeautiControl Lip Color – Fire & Ice

Tiny Words - Fire & Ice

6. Lunch I didn’t have anything fun or exciting for lunch so I thought it would be funny to take a photo of hubby’s lunch. I lovingly pack his lunch for him before he heads off to work. It saves us so much money and it’s healthier for him too. Plus leftovers get eaten, everyone is happy.

Lunch - to go

7. Shadow I thought is was funny that on Easter Day the topic was Shadow… Not egg? bunny? CHOCOLATE?? Nope, Shadow. This was taken while the boys where hunting for EGGS, eating CHOCOLATE, talking about BUNNY’s

Shadow on Easter.

Have you noticed a change in your eyes?

Do you pack a lunch?

April Photo a Day 3 & 4

I have a good friend leaving soon for a great adventure. She sent me a card to say goodbye.

3. Mail  This is the stamp from her card. She will be missed by many. I am so exited for her and sad for me. I will, however, have a great place to visit when I have the chance.

Mail - Stamp

4. Someone who makes you happy  My boys. All of them. Although at time they totally drive me crazy. Yes, they make me so happy. I truly am blessed.  This is bed time story time.

Someone who makes me happy - my boys.

Parenthood – March Photo a Day 23 & 30

Parenthood is such a funny thing. I find myself since I have had children focused on children’s things unintentionally. It’s like the word association game. Ask me a question or give me a word and somehow I’ll relate it back to my boys. Must have happened when they sucked my brain out of my head while I was pregnant with them. Yeah, that must be it.  All that to say how I came up with these photos.

23. Moon I have this book memorized cover to cover. I can recite it in the dark for that “one more story” moment or in the car to keep the natives calm. This little book has worn edges, teeth marks and a cracked spine. It has been and still is a loved book.

The moon that shines every night in our house.

30. Toy We have so many toys it is ridiculous. Really. We saved many after C Boy grew out of them “just in case” and Sweet P has enjoyed them. Now… I don’t know why we have them still. Yet, the one toy that remains and was in our household before kids… LEGOS. If you go to a LEGO store you’ll find a spot where you can make Lego guys. The boys decided to make a LEGO Mommy. Yeah, I kick bummy.
