Fashion – Shopping Advice from a Pro

After shopping with a few clients these past couple of weeks I have decided to give you the top 5 things to do, be it shopping with a professional like me or shopping by yourself.

  • Know what’s in your closet. This small piece of advice will save you so much time and money. Why? When you know what you have it is easier to mix and match and keeps you from over doing it on say, black pants or whatever you obsession.
  • Shop for FIT not size.  We have become a “size tag” obsessed society. “I should buy it because it says I’m a smaller size…”  No, you should buy it if the garment makes you LOOK a size smaller. Fit the larges part of your body then alter to make it custom for you. Example, if you have fuller hips find pants, skirts and shorts that fit you best around the hip. Then have the waist taken in so there’s no gap.
  • Buy it only if it will go with 3 other things in your closet.  NO, not in your cart, in your closet. This does 3 things… makes you “know” what is in your closet, keeps you from over spending, and forces a little more mix and match. Get creative.
  • Wear nice undergarments.  You might be asking yourself “why?” whose going to be seeing me try on these clothes. If I am going with you, I will see you. But more importantly when we wear undergarments that fit well, we feel good and our clothes fit better. By the way, just wear white or nude. Nothing distracts like a black under white.
  • Try everything on.  I can hear you now… “yeah yeah I know but I just popped in and didn’t have time.” The challenge is, if you didn’t have time to try it on there how much more time do you have when you get home. If it doesn’t fit you now have to find time to take it back. I have so many clients who still have clothes in their closet with tags that don’t fit properly and didn’t or can’t take them back for whatever reason. Wasted money, space and time. Don’t guess, try it on.

Happy Shopping!

Fashion & Me – Photo a Day June

Here’s some fashion goings on from the month of June.

6. Hat  I have an amazing hat collection. I collect hats. I have over 50. Several are vintage from the early 1900’s. One is vintage from Paris. (Brought that one home from honeymoon) I use to wear them all the time, but, with two small people in my life they have made it a little harder for me to feel comfortable in wearing them right now. Maybe after my youngest gets older, in school, I’ll start again.

Hat(s)

15. Yellow  I wore these fabulous yellow snake skin heels with a fantastic Karen Kane LBD. I would show you the whole outfit but I am still feeling challenged with my self photos of what I am wearing. I just need to have my hubby take them.  I do have to laugh as when I originally posted this pick several people thought it was a real snake. Silly friends.

Yellow – Accessories (Shoes)

18. Something we don’t know about you.   I played the violin from the 4th grade on through high school. I even made it to the Mesa Youth Orchestra. I have’t picked it up in years. I still have it and am inspired when I hear violins being played.

Something you don’t know about me – I played the violin.

19. Imperfect me…

Imperfect – Me

24. On your mind  Having had a migraine, so on my mind is making it go away. I have a feeling my previous photo is one of me having a migraine too. I wish they would just go away! I pulled out my BeautiControl goodies: spa neck wrap, Luxeries of the Sea cooling gel, Spa Detox Mist, Spa Nourishing Eye pads. Aaaahhhh….

On my mind – spa remedy for my head.

26. Where you shop  I shop lots of different places when I have time. “Tar jay” seems to be our go to these days. I think we need to invest in stock in them. 🙂

Do you wear hats? Where do you shop?

Fashion – AZ Assist Switch & Ditch

I had the privilege to put on a Switch & Ditch fundraiser for AZ Assist a local (Arizona) nonprofit that assists young adults with autism and their families. It is impressive what they have been able to do for there clients with the little recognition they’ve received.

It was the largest Switch & Ditch to date. The ladies had a great time and were able to learn more about AZ Assist. I am still taken back on the amount of clothing that ends up being left over after all is said and done. It was all donated to Fresh Start Treasures. I love the win – win – win – win concept. 🙂 I think they are starting to get to know me over there as I have dropped off lots of goodies over the last year.

Here is a peak into the fun we had at Switch & Ditch…

Oh AND this is also a “photo a day” 2. Empty – Not. It looks like a store.

Fashion – Color Choice & Mood

Have you ever noticed that when you are in certain moods you buy certain colors? I am always drawn to purple, it’s “my color”. I am big on color as it is one of the areas I teach my clients about when I meet with them about personal style. I am “old school” and still see the value in color draping and knowing your best colors.  That being said, I also understand that we go through color phases in our life, partly from the trends that are available to us and partly what our mood or out look is.

I have had some migraines lately and have been feeling pretty… well… cruddy.  As I was going through my closet I noticed a new color trend that has never been there… Grey. Pretty much describes my mood too. Now, yes, grey is a great neutral, however, I tend toward black. I did have grey in my closet before this, like 2 things, but I have been choosing to purchase and wear grey a lot lately. I think I better go find some new purple things to see if it brings my mood up. I did luckily find some fabulous pink capris that have been fun to create new looks with.

Lots of grey for a purple girl.

What is your color trend and is it linked to your mood?

Promoting my Business – Wine Women and Wings to Soar event

I was given a great opportunity to showcase my Image Consulting Business at the Wine Women and Wings to Soar event held at the ASU Polytechnic Campus. The sponsors National Bank of Arizona did a lovely job of pulling all the details together, food, beverages, door prizes and special gifts for each person in attendance. We also had the privilege to listen to a panel of inspirational women sharing their experience in the world of technology.

I was able to meet some fantastic ladies and share my business with them, JackieStyle. Help women look and feel their best through image services including skin care, make up application, color analysis, body typing, fashion personality, closet makeovers, personal shopping, wardrobing, workshops and more.

I had a little challenge trying to put together what I felt was the “right” display. You’ll have to let me know if what I put together did that justice.

Fashion – January Switch & Ditch Event

I have a brain full of ideas.  Some I am able to execute and some, not so much. It’s exciting to make something work like Switch & Ditch. JackieStyle Image Consulting sponsors this event at least twice a year with a couple other amazing women. (More often if enough clients request it.)

In a nut shell. Clients bring 10 or more items they would like to ditch and switch them with other items that have been ditched. There’s a little more to it but I think you’ve got the gist. It is a great way to get those unwanted items out of the closet so someone else can use them. Plus, at the end of the event all the pieces left are donated.  WIN- WIN- WIN. So important.

Here is how it went this time…

Always serve goodies. These are sooo good.

JackieStyle Cupcakes

Getting set up. Many guest came at the same time so lots to get on the racks.
